View of Orsova from the boat |
We took the boat from Orsova on a 2-hour trip along the Romanian shore, up to Gura Ponicovei Cave, above Mraconia Monastery, passing by the impressive statue of Decebalus the Dacian king, carved in the mountain, then we turned back near the Serbian shore and saw Emperor Traian's monument - Tabula Traiana. The vast stretching of the Danube and the great surrounding cliffs made a strong impression on us, also. Although it was very hot, we could still admire this amazing natural sculpture made by the River Danube on its way to the sea while passing the mountains: the Danube Defile.
