Chain Bridge and St. Stephen's Basilica
|
A very elegant city, even more baroque than Vienna, Budapest really knows how to emphasize its former imperial glory... Just take a stroll through Castle Hill District at night, resting your eyes over the wonderfully lit Danube panoramas, or take a longer tour up to Gellert Hill, and admire the whole city from above - the splendor of the two halves divided and at the same time reunited by the Danube River will unfold with pride.
Each evening, we went to another part of the city, to gaze at the fairy-tale buildings of Buda - Matthias Church, with its gothic embroidery, Fisherman's Bastion, with its Disneyland architecture, Buda Castle, with its marvelous dome and with Matthias Fountain, a bronze ensemble like a black replica given to the divine Fontana di Trevi from La Citta Eterna... Or we took a walk through the famous Andrassy Avenue, through Vaci Utca in Pesta, or along the emblematic bridges as much as our feet could bear...
A must-have by night as it is by day, a boat trip on the Danube is unforgettable, floating under the ever-changing bridges, passing by the intricate facades of palaces and churches, each with so many (his)stories to tell... A Ferris wheel - in our case, the Budapest Eye, can also make you discover even more jewels at night, and a touristic bus-tour will guide you through the most visited boulevards and squares. Hungarian people know how to make you feel very comfortable in their beloved capital, and their cuisine is one of their best-preserved crafts and arts.
I believe every visitor with a passion for architecture and culture gets to a point where he doesn't know where to look anymore, on what to focus most or which building is more beautiful...
